hey

so once again, i'm making changes to my site and i'm not ready to present.

either way, i want to embrace this aspect of myself; we'll do it live :7

the reason for my previous break:
- i had some personal struggles.
- wasn't getting any feedback whatsoever; working in a vacuum.
- had no idea who, if anyone was visiting my site.
- had yet to implement a contact/chat system or leave an email address.

so i ended up trying a different site: spacehey!

what year is it?

i started at neocities for the exp of custom html, css and js. i remembered myspace also had those features (minus the js, i believe). i barely tried it back in the day (too shy, limited social skills, too dumb). so in my lack of, yet longing for some social aspect on neocities, i looked up a bunch of alternatives; and spacehey fit my needs.

having spent a large amount of time learning web design and building my neocities page, i was able to customize my spacehey fairly easily; even designing it nearly identical to my original site.

fun, fun, fun, fun-

the thing i enjoyed most were the friends list and blogging. i hadn't tried looking for any friends, they would just come rolling in; altho i did come across some pages i liked, i didn't want to blindly add anyone.

the blogging was fun for a while. i had alot i wanted to say and having a site where ppl could actually find my content was exciting. one of my blogs helped others solve a problem that was plaguing the site and got me lots of attention and upvotes (that was until the creator of the site, An fixed those issues).

the blogs could even be customized differently from the profile page. some of my friends embraced this aspect and made some cool posts!

i mostly wrote about my usual depressive topics, and things that meant something to me; it's therapeutic and enjoyable for me, but i'm never sure if anyone actually wants to hear such things, which makes me hesitant to share.

problem? :7

the problem i had with this is most ppl wouldn't interact with my posts. spacehey uses myspace's outdated design... verbatim; which means all the features that make modern social media great were upgrades of the poor design.

spacehey has 2 types of posts: blogs and bulletins. all of your friends bulletins will show on the homepage, which is supposed to be like a typical feed; but there are many problems with this.
- the bulletins have a max lifetime of 10 days, meaning anything you share will be deleted;
- it's very easy to miss a bulletin bcuz the small box can easily be overflowed by a busy user, meaning you will only see their spam and have to click to show all bulletins. - and for some reason, customized bulletins are seemingly handled different than blogs; so many times the customization doesn't work.

blogs which seemed the better option in every way, were so badly hidden from users. - blogs would not show on the homepage, unless you went to a profile and subscribed to that specific user's blog. - whenever you added a friend, it would not sub you to their blog, so you would have to check their page to even kno if they made one. - profiles would only list up to 5 blogs at a time. -

i decided to create a hybrid to solve these faults; my idea "highlights" would encourage you to instead edit the blurb side of your profile to share new posts. the point was to encourage users to instead check your profile for new changes, bcuz
